Per.6 Changed me One event that has helped shape me into the person I am today is when I went to the store with my mom and she bought me a really expensive jacket. My mom has never been one to have a lot of money. For the most part, all the money she makes goes to bills and other necessities like food and clothes. Not only did it teach me to be grateful for where I am today, but it also made me want to work harder towards my education so I could get a good enough job to where I could support my mom and my family.
“Mom can I buy this jacket?” I asked my mom. “How much does it cost?” she asked me. “ Eighty dollars,” I replied. As soon as I said the price I noticed how big her eyes got as she told me to put it back. Growing up the first thing I had to do when I went clothes shopping was look at the price tag. So this time was no different, I gently put the jacket back and wandered off in search for a new jacket. I couldn’t find another jacket that I liked so I went to sit down on the chairs to wait for my mom. I then heard my phone ring, it was my mom asking where I was. She then said to start heading towards the front as she had finished shopping and we were about to go home. I then walked over to where she was and I asked, “are we going anywhere else?” She looked at me and said no because she was low on money. Once we got home I helped put the bags inside only to see the jacket I wanted, she smiled and told me that It was for me. I was so happy at the time and told her thank you, yet I failed to realize the sacrifice she made in order to purchase the jacket I wanted. My mom has always been one to sacrifice a lot of things in order to make sure my brothers and I have a good life. The reason this moment stuck out to me so much was because I had remembered she said she wanted new shoes because the ones she had would hurt her feet. I realized how lucky I was to have a mom who would sacrifice her wants for mine. That is when I told myself, “I'm gonna work hard in school so I can get a good job and help my mom with money when she gets older.” I wanted to be successful in life, not only for my self but for my mom, helping her would be a life long accomplishment. Especially since money has always been a big factor in the things we buy. Ever since that memorable moment, It has pushed me to get better grades and do better in school. It has helped me want to be more successful at school and get a high paying job. Although a high paying job requires a college degree. Being able to provide for my mom is something that I aim to do with a good high paying job. The one memorable moment that helped shape me into the person I am today is when my mom bought me an expensive sweater knowing she couldn't buy herself the shoes she desperately needed. It helped me realize how lucky I am to be where I am today and helped me realize that I want to do good in school and be successful in order to be able to provide for me as well as my mom. |
